My strongest recommendation to everyone when you travel is to ensure you venture off the regular tourist tracks to see the everyday and real life of a city. By hiring bikes we have been able to view aspects of Amsterdam most people would never know about. These homes were in areas set up especially established to give all people an opportunity to experience a holiday home. They can not be kept in the family therefore once the owner leaves the property and house is put back on the market and a panel selects a new deserving owner.

A very egalitarian, welfare orientated system. Lots of work places used to have holdiday cottages. we always tried to get the Survey Department Ohope family cottage when the kids were little - every one deserves to experience holiday times ... you are so right about the value of getting off the beaten track ... not too far off in some places though!
