Connection with our RIS Community

Kia Ora
We believe at Rotorua Intermediate we are striving to become 'Globally recognised for excellence in personalised and innovative learning and teaching, which connects to our changing world'. We are driven to do this to ensure we are developing students who will be confident, connected, actively involved, life long learners. In essence we are striving to best prepare them for their future and not our past.
The intention of my blog is to be able to continually connect with community in order to gain community feedback on our progress, gain feed-forward on the aspirations that our community has for our students as well as seeking comment from past and present students. ]

I’m unsure which wise person stated this very obvious yet thought provoking comment however; it certainly applies to what is currently happening at our school. What is happening? Stage two of the remodelling of our Administration Area and the building of a new staffroom is underway. The target finish date is 12 October so let’s hope the contractors are on target.
On behalf of our staff I would like to publically thank our very supportive Board of Trustees for undertaking this development. The building of our new staffroom will alleviate the overcrowding which we have been experiencing since our school’s role has increased substantially resulting in the increase of staffing. The re-arrangement of our office space and first-aid room will ensure greater effectiveness and cover the health and safety issues which accrued due to the design of our 50 year old complex. A special mention to the efforts of Jackie Pitman for her efforts as Chairperson of our Property Committee and the skilled way in which she is managing this project.
October is an exciting month for our school as we will be having an independent audit of our effectiveness to provide quality learning and teaching experiences for our students by the Education Review Office (ERO). Their team will be in our school for two weeks starting October 27. This is viewed by our staff as an excellent opportunity to gain feedback on the effectiveness of present learning initiatives in our school and gaining feed-forward recommendations for our next step development. Personally if we don’t get some feed-forward recommendations I would be very disappointed in the review process being undertaken.
